Although the areas covered by the so-called blue zones have been gradually increasing since 2018, current price list for resident parking applies unchanged from 2019. How will it change and how much, it is not yet clear. The Brno newspaper Rovnost mapped how the situation in this area of Brno regarding the price list of resident parking is compared to the six largest cities of the Czech Republic according to the number of inhabitants now.

The editors compared the amount paid by residents in their cities for parking permits in residential zones per person and year. Look at the result.

Prague

In the capital, Prague, they have a double price. It varies according to the size of the parking area. Residents pay twelve hundred crowns for their first car per year for parking in a larger parking lot, and half that for permission in a smaller parking lot. “In Prague, we are currently preparing a comprehensive parking amendment,” said Vít Hofman, the spokesperson of the capital city municipality.

Ostrava

They also have a graded price list in Ostrava, depending on the area. Parking permits for residents in the center cost twelve hundred crowns, the further away from the center the area is, the lower the price. In Svinov and Silesian Ostrava, the annual fee for the first car is currently 360 crowns. “The last time parking prices changed was in 2019. It is not possible to anticipate any price changes now,” said Ostrava spokeswoman Gabriela Pokorná.

Olomouc

The amount for an annual parking permit for the first car in Olomouc is even higher. There, residents will give two thousand crowns.

Liberec

Residents in Liberec will pay another thousand kroner more. “We revised the price list last year, effective from January 1, 2024. Therefore, we are not currently planning any further revisions,” said Liberce spokeswoman Jana Kodymová. According to her, the city management is not planning a larger expansion of resident parking at the moment.

Brno is the cheapest

How much is a parking permit for residents in Brno?

  • 1st car CZK 200 (per person per year)
  • 2nd car CZK 8,000 (per person per year)
  • 3rd and another car CZK 12,000 (per person per year)

Compared to other cities, the current price of 200 crowns is the lowest in Brno. The Brno opposition also supports the change in the price list. “According to Deloitte’s analysis, the maintenance costs of one site are certainly above five thousand crowns per year. It is therefore legitimate to conduct a debate about greater consideration of costs in the parking fee,” admitted opposition member Adam Zemek.

According to economist Lukáš Kovanda, city officials should now take households into account and let them breathe a little. “Households are decimated by the high prices of recent years, high growth. The economy is now recovering from the inflationary shock. The confidence of households in the economy is growing, but I don’t think that there should and must be an increase in parking prices right now,” the economist thought.
