The US Department of Defense approved the sale earlier when it announced on March 12 that Poland, among other things, requested the purchase of up to 821 AGM-158 air-to-ground cruise missiles in the JASSM-ER variant capable of hitting a target up to a thousand kilometers away , the PAP agency noted in this context.

Poland could also get up to 745 AIM-120 AMRAAM medium-range air-to-air missiles and 232 AIM-9 Sidewinder short-range supersonic cruise missiles, according to the Pentagon. Since the beginning of the current Russian invasion of Ukraine, Warsaw has significantly increased defense spending.

At the same time, in mid-March, during a meeting with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Duda, US President Joe Biden promised that Washington would provide Warsaw with a loan of two billion dollars for the purchase of 96 US Apache helicopters.

Poland has significantly increased defense spending since the beginning of the current Russian invasion of Ukraine. Last year, according to NATO’s estimate, it spent 3.9 percent of the gross domestic product, which in relative terms is the most of all the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance.
