Four foreigners detained on Sunday in the Russian Dagestan participated in the financing of a terrorist attack in a concert hall near Moscow at the end of March and supplied the attackers with weapons, the TASS agency reported today, citing the Russian FSB secret service. The attack at the Crocus City Hall concert hall in Krasnogorsk, a suburb of Moscow, claimed at least 144 lives.

On Sunday, Russia’s National Anti-Terrorist Committee (NAK) reported that three people were arrested in Dagestan who were planning further terrorist attacks. According to today’s announcement by the FSB, four people have been detained and they are foreign fighters.

The quartet planned an attack in Dagestan’s Caspian region, Russian counterintelligence claims. “It was also established that the detained fighters were directly involved in providing finance and terrorist means to the perpetrators of the terrorist attack committed on March 22 at the Crocus City Hall concert hall in Moscow,” the secret service told TASS.

Russian security forces detained at least 12 people in connection with the attack, including four suspected attackers. Most of the detainees are from Tajikistan. The terrorist organization Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack. The Russian Investigative Committee and the Kremlin nevertheless connect the shooting in the concert hall with Ukraine, where Moscow launched an invasion more than two years ago, but they have not presented evidence for this. Ukraine denied involvement in the terrorist attack in the Russian capital.
