President Petr Pavel visited the Office for Foreign Relations and Information (ÚZSI) on Friday. https://twitter.com/prezidentpavel/status/1783786504449331594 about it on the X network. He thanked Rozvědc for his work, calling its activity crucial for the security, foreign-political and economic interests of the Czech Republic. The visit to the ÚZSI headquarters in Prague’s Kobylisy followed the recent meeting of the President with the leadership of the Security Information Service (BIS).

“ÚZSI is the least known intelligence service to the public. But its activity is key to our security, foreign-political and economic interests. In today’s volatile international environment, it is essential to rely on the institutions that work for the security of our country. Thank you for your work,” Pavel wrote. He attached two photos with the head of intelligence Vladimír Posolda to the information about his visit.

Exactly one month ago, Pavel visited counterintelligence. After 26 years, he was the second president to visit the BIS, the last time Václav Havel held a meeting at the headquarters of the secret service at the end of September 1998. Pavel discussed the current situation and threats, Russian activities and the influence of Russia and China on security in the Czech Republic with director Michal Koudelka and the wider BIS management.

Secret service visits by politicians are not frequent. However, Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) recently visited all three. In October last year, he visited the BIS, and at the beginning of last year he discussed with the leadership of the Military Intelligence (VZ) about the war in Ukraine, cyber defense and disinformation. ÚZSI then visited Fiala at the end of March last year. After the meeting at BIS, Pavel announced that he was also going to visit all three secret services.
