Nico Rosberg claims that Lando Norris should choose a more positive approach and not think ahead about how many seconds he will finish behind Ferrari.
Ahead of this year’s Chinese GP, McLaren officials led by team principal Andrea Stella hinted that the British team was in for a tough weekend in Shanghai, given the nature of the circuit with a number of slow and medium-fast corners.
“We will mainly try to limit the damage,” Stella even declared.
Even Lando Norris was not too optimistic, who even bet before the race with his engineer Will Joseph that the Ferrari drivers would beat him by at least 35 seconds.
However, the reality in his case was completely different. On Sunday, the British racer was not enough for Verstappen alone and beat the Ferrari driver clearly, giving Charles Leclerc around 10 seconds, while Carlos Sainz had twice as much.
After the race, 2016 F1 World Champion Nico Rosberg commented on Norris’ not-so-confident approach before the Chinese GP. The German said on Sky Sports TV that he doesn’t like Norris’s approach too much.
“Lando is a bit of a person who always sees the glass as half empty,” said Rosberg.
“A bet before the race that Ferrari will beat them? I don’t know, I don’t think it’s the best approach in general. I think more positivism would help him,” the former Williams and Mercedes driver shared his opinion.
“Nevertheless, he performed a phenomenal ride, he drove really well. Together with Max (Verstappen, editor’s note) he was the best driver of the day. He was consistent, his car tires had no degradation which was amazing to see. Especially compared to his teammate Oscar Piastri, who really struggled with relegation. That was the big difference,” concluded Rosberg.
