The wildest landing in Madeira: The plane landed on the runway very dangerously, the video is breathtaking

The airport on the island of Madeira, which is named after the famous Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, is one of the most treacherous in the world in terms of take-off, but mainly landing. The runway, which has been repeatedly extended after several crashes, is currently 2,777 meters long and 45 meters wide, but it lies 59 meters above sea level, where strong gusts of wind blow and pilots must have special training to use this airport. It is therefore not surprising that the Madeira Airport Spotting YouTube channel is full of wild take-offs and landings, to which the wildest was added at the end of March 2024.

In the blood-curdling footage, you can watch the Airbus A321-251NX of the Portuguese airline TAP Air Portugal landing on a nearly three-kilometer runway. Due to gusts of wind, the pilot was unable to steer the plane in such a way that it could land on the runway according to regulations, and for a moment it seems that the landing will not succeed at all. It is, after all, a wonder that the pilot did not cancel the landing in the critical phase, did not choose a safety go-around of the airport and did not line up for landing again. In the end, everything turned out well, and what is the main thing, at the moment, the circumstances of this not-so-successful landing are not known.

The aircraft was the first to touch the runway with the front landing gear, which is a very non-standard procedure and it must be admitted that even the landing of the main landing gear legs was not exactly smooth. Even shortly after landing, the plane was far from stable, but the reverse thrust of the engines and brakes completed the dangerous maneuver to the joy of the crew.

And speaking of the crew, they were the only people on board. No one was traveling on the plane, which in retrospect may seem like great luck.
