After being stabbed in the neck, the four-year-old boy in Most had no chance of survival, an expert told the court

Andrea Vlčková, an expert in the field of forensic medicine, stated before the court that the deep wound extended to the spine, the blade stopped on the bone between the spine and the child’s skull, and an artery and a vein were severed. “The cause of death was swelling of the brain due to blood loss and air embolism,” the expert testified, recalling that the boy was unsuccessfully resuscitated after the arrival of paramedics. “Given the injuries, the boy had no chance of survival,” she added.

The conflict happened at the end of May last year in Rozmarýnova Street in Mostek in front of the local elementary school. The Italian father of the child, Francesco Manigrasso, came to Most to meet his ex-partner and his son.

Pokuta, who was under the influence of meth and marijuana, got involved in their argument, during which the man had a stick in his hand. Kuta lived with the woman at the time and, according to witnesses, repeatedly threatened to kill the Italian.

“Although he must have been aware of the danger of his actions, during the ongoing argument he ran quickly from behind the victim, who was running at the time, while holding his son with both hands on his chest. At the moment when the victim started to turn towards the defendant with his son in his arms, the defendant unexpectedly lunged at the victim with his left hand, in which he was holding a knife,” the indictment states.

Fine said at the beginning of the main trial in February that he did not agree to the indictment because he did not intentionally want to hurt anyone. He stated that the man with whom he had a conflict constantly attacked him, that he was worried about his partner, his child and himself. He testified that he raised the boy and liked him.

On Wednesday, Judge Martin Parolek also read the statements of witnesses who were not yet eighteen years old. They generally agreed with the wording of the indictment. After a loud argument between two men and a woman, there was a fight between men, in which an innocent boy was killed.

However, some witnesses believed that the Italian father took his son’s arm on purpose as a shield against an attack by the defendant, who at that time was already holding a knife in his hand.

The little brother of the dead boy saw it similarly. He testified to the police that the Italian was nasty to his mother on the fateful day, he repeatedly attacked her, they argued. He then pulled out a fence post and ran after Pokuta, arguing with him as well. After Pokuta pulled out the knife, the Italian dropped the pole and took the child in his arms, according to the boy.

The mother of the dead child will testify on Thursday, when the court will also hear from an expert who examined the defendant’s mental health. The father’s resignation is planned in April.

“The proof is at the very beginning. Key witnesses are yet to be heard. For now, I insist on the wording of the indictment,” state attorney Klára Kubátová told journalists.

The fine is punishable by a sentence ranging from twelve to twenty years because, according to the indictment, he committed attempted murder in the second paragraph, i.e. with premeditation.
