Smoke rose from the area behind the building on the corner of Wenceslas Square and Jindřišská Street. According to Petr Kostka, the spokesman of the renovated Hotel Evropa, a local fire broke out on its roof during construction work. No one was injured, he added.
“We have been caring for a man for about 30 years, for difficulties associated with inhaling combustion products. After an initial examination, provision of vital functions (among other things, administration of oxygen therapy), the patient was transported to the hospital,” the rescuers wrote on the X network.
At the scene of the intervention, they had a crew, an inspector and a special Fénix vehicle, i.e. a vehicle used primarily for evacuation and mass transport of people.
“This is a cardboard fire in a new building with an area of 10×15 m, at the moment it is not possible to set up a ladder, the intervention is carried out inside the building in breathing techniques,” the firefighters said on the X network at 12:23 after they arrived at the scene of the intervention.
A few minutes later, they reported that the fire had stopped spreading. “We are finishing up and dismantling the roof insulation. The intervention is blocking traffic in Jindřišská Street,” they informed.
“This is a reinforced concrete roof where construction work was taking place. All persons were evacuated from the building,” they added.
Jindřišská street is closed to traffic, not even trams will pass. The operation of six tram lines is limited, the transport company is diverting trams according to its website.
