The home side Ilves had the upper hand in the statistics during the match, but was brought down by dismissals and defensive errors. He took six two-minute penalties and Matias Mäntykivi already received a penalty until the end of the game in the first period.

Ilves forward Šimon Stránský equalized after Petr Kodýtek’s pass just before the first siren to make it 1:1. The home team took the lead in the second period, but Andreas Okany equalized in the third period.

When it seemed that the match was slowly going to extra time, Kuopio forward Matyáš Kantner shocked the home team and the fans with a bomb from the right side, whose cannonball ended up behind Ilves goalkeeper Jakub Málek.

Okany then sealed KalPy’s win with a shot into an empty net, but the big commotion was mainly around Kantner’s shot to make it 3:2. The home team believed that the goal was clearly offside, which the fans soon proved with photos they shared on social networks.

“They were 15 centimeters offside. Clear offside,” Ilves coach Antti Pennanen was upset after the match.

“Was a judicial murder committed at Ilves?” the Finnish server Ilta Sanomat asks emotionally in the headline, whether the referees executed the team from Tampere in the decisive phase of the key match.

The head of referees of the Finnish league, Jyri Rönn, partially justified the anger of the home team. But really only partially. “The truth is that Kalpa’s goal was offside. But even Ilves’ goal to make it 2:1 was offside. So today both teams scored goals after offside situations,” Rönn explained to Ilta Sanomat by phone.

In the hyped series, the Czech players are the center of attention. For example, the KalPa team was upset by a blow to the head of Kasper Simontaivala from the Czech national team goalkeeper Málek in Monday’s duel. And above all, the fact that the goalkeeper only got two minutes for it.
