Foreign aid workers killed in airstrike, reports from Gaza

--

The Palestinian authorities informed about the nationality of the victims based on the passports found with the bodies. The Israeli military is investigating the incident, according to a statement cited by Al Jazeera.

According to Mahmoud Thabet, a rescue worker from the Palestinian Red Crescent who was on the team that brought the bodies to the hospital, the workers’ car was hit by an Israeli strike just after crossing from the northern Gaza Strip. This was reportedly after the group helped deliver aid that had arrived hours earlier on a ship from Cyprus, the Times of Israel website noted. He pointed out, however, that it was not immediately possible to verify who fired.

The foreign workers belonged to the charity company World Central Kitchen (WCK), which, together with the Spanish NGO Open Arms, organizes the delivery of humanitarian supplies to the Gaza Strip via the maritime corridor from Cyprus. The organization delivered around 330 tons of aid in three ships to the Gaza Strip on Saturday.

The conflict was sparked early last October by terrorist attacks by the Palestinian terrorist movement Hamas and affiliates in southern Israel, prompting Tel Aviv to launch a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip to eliminate Hamas.

As of Monday, the fighting has claimed 32,845 Palestinian lives, most of them civilians, according to regular reports from the Hamas-controlled Palestinian Authority. According to Israel, over 13,000 Hamas fighters and 600 Israeli soldiers were killed.
